AI visibility

AI visibility is used for at least four different things: crawler requests, mentions in answers, citations of your pages, and answers that link your product's own page. They differ by orders of magnitude. A report that says visibility without saying which one is not a measurement.

The four measurements usually meant

| Meaning | What it counts | Step on the ladder | | --- | --- | --- | | crawler traffic | requests naming an AI crawler | crawled, if verified | | mentions | answers naming the product | none — not a step | | citations | answers linking a page of yours | cited | | official destination | answers linking the product's own page | cited, at the right page |

On our own pages the first and third differ by a factor of about sixty (study).

What to ask of any visibility number

Which of these it counts, which models, over which dates — and whether the crawler requests in it were verified.
